Noah and I have been going through hunter safety training for the past couple of weeks. It has been a good course and we have both learned a lot about handling guns safely. I think they are trying to scare safety into the kids!

Tonight we went to a friends house and practiced handling and shooting a .22 caliber bolt action rifle. Noah was a bit nervous, but once he took the first shot, he was fine. All of his shots were on target and within the outer ring of the target. It was a good way to get ready for the test this next Saturday.

I think we will be joining the West Salem Rod and Gun club.

I have been slowly gathering the gear needed to turkey hunt this year. I put in for a permit in December and ended up getting first season (april 16-20). With all the snow we have, it will probably be wet and cold. Not exactly what I was looking for…

I’ve never done it, but it sounds like a blast and well, I think it will be fun for Noah and Megan who has been asking lately if she can go, to get out in the woods and see what its all about. I have a slate call, a gun (Mossberg 835 Camo) and book. I also have a place to hunt, Chip (Bachlund) and I will be going out in early April to scout a bit. He has a farm close to West Salem to hunt on, I can’t wait to get out there.

I found out recently that there is a gun club in West Salem. I think Noah and I will go out there once it warms up a bit and do a little shooting. He and I are going to go through a hunter safety course together this March. Can’t hurt for me to go through it with him.

The kids and I walked out onto the lake today to find a cache that we were chicken to swim out to this past summer. Once we found that, they wanted to keep going! So we found 2 other caches today, all within a mile of our house.
